The Chicks are Crankin’ Up the HEAT with New Features!

Good day Chicks and Roosters!

We have some fiercely awesome news to share. We are starting TWO new features…one is going to be our CHICK CRASHERS events where we welcome guests who will entertain and enlighten us on a variety of swaggerly topics. Posts could be related to books, or they could be totally random Op Ed pieces, or they could be fact-based, educationally-inspired posts to help us boost our swagger quotient.

chick-crasher-logoPrepare for fun and laughter. Maybe even prizes sometimes. 🙂

The second new feature is going to be a book club called LIT SWAGGER. Hot damn! Here’s how it’ll work: The Chicks will put book selections in a poll for you guys to vote on (see below), and then whoever is interested can read that selection, and we’ll have a book discussion right here on the last Wednesday of the month. (That sentence sucked, but you get the gist, right?)

We are. So. EXCITED!

So without further ado…here are our first book picks. Click on the book covers for a link to Amazon for reviews, etc (no offense to B&N or iTunes!). Choose the one you want to read by voting in the poll at the end of the post.

coming homeCOMING HOME by Laurie Breton
Genre: women’s fiction

Blurb: Danny Fiore is a handsome, charismatic singer with huge ambitions and a voice that can peel the paper off the walls. Casey Bradley is just eighteen years old, but the songs she writes send an icy finger down the center of Danny’s cynical spine.  Danny knows exactly where he’s going, and he has no intention of taking any woman along.  A woman like Casey would want things he’s not prepared to give.  A home. Stability.  Children.  He’s married to his music, and that’s the way he likes it. Neither of them plans on falling in love.  But sometimes, the heart has a mind of its own.

Guitar wizard Rob MacKenzie doesn’t have Danny’s looks, or his charisma, or his sense of style.  Tall and gaunt and bony, Rob isn’t a god, just an ordinary mortal, an easygoing guy who wants nothing more than to write his songs, play his guitar, and find the right woman.  But life is never quite as simple as he’d like, and his search for Ms. Right keeps leading him down all the wrong roads.

When Rob MacKenzie and Casey Bradley Fiore begin writing songs together, the result is an unstoppable hit-making machine that catapults Danny Fiore to stardom.  But the road to success is littered with land mines, and life with Danny isn’t all that Casey expected. Rivers of darkness run through her troubled marriage, and every time Danny breaks her heart, it’s Rob who picks her up, dusts her off, and glues the pieces back together.

When her world fell apart, she had to find herself. It isn’t until she suffers an unimaginable loss that Casey begins to question who she is and what she really wants from life. As she searches for herself amid the wreckage, she discovers the bittersweet truth that the choices a woman makes at thirty can differ vastly from those she made at eighteen.

seducingSeducing Charlotte by Diana Quincy

He’s an industrialist who thinks nothing of replacing workers with machines, depriving them of an honest living. Camryn is everything a social reformer like Charlotte detests. Besides, her loyalty belongs to another man.

Yet, as a violent machine-breakers rebellion rages across England, an undeniable attraction flares between the passionate adversaries. Camryn vows to destroy the rebel movement, unaware that the spinster who has captured his heart, harbors a secret – a shocking connection to one of its leaders that could shatter them both.

Genre: Erotic – please note, this book features BDSM and some themes that might be disturbing to some.

Blurb: Notorious Nora Sutherlin is famous for her delicious works of erotica, each one more popular with readers than the last. But her latest manuscript is different – more serious, more personal – and she’s sure it’ll be her breakout book…if it ever sees the light of day.

Zachary Easton holds Nora’s fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: He wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards – in six weeks – or it’s no deal.

Nora’s grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing. And a dangerous former lover has her wondering which is more torturous – staying away from him…or returning to his bed?

Nora thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in a world where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

Far-from-perfectFAR FROM PERFECT by Barbara Longley
Genre: Contemporary

Blurb: Noah Langford narrowly survived the roadside bombing in Iraq that cost him his leg and forever his peace of mind. When his stepbrother Matt dies in a car accident, the loss feels like the final blow to Noah’s shattered soul. But then he learns about the girlfriend and baby living in Perfect, Indiana who Matt had never mentioned, and suddenly Noah has a new mission…

Ceejay Lovejoy was nineteen and pregnant when her boyfriend walked out. Since that day, Ceejay has devoted herself to giving her daughter a better life, avoiding any man who could threaten that security—until the day Noah Langford shows up on her doorstep in Perfect. His gentle spirit has an unexpected effect on Ceejay’s guarded heart, tempting her to take one last chance on love. But when a painful secret comes to light, it threatens to break the fragile bond growing between them…and to destroy a love powerful enough to heal them both.

17448960FALLING INTO YOU by Jasinda Wilder
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Blurb: I wasn’t always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way. Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn’t teach me how to live. He didn’t heal the pain. He didn’t make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

Nell Hawthorne is in love with her life-long best friend, Kyle Calloway. Their young love is invincible and life is full of promise; then one night Kyle dies suddenly in a tragic accident and Nell is forever changed. She meets Kyle’s older brother Colton for the first time at the funeral. They both struggle to move on with life as best they can. Years later, they meet again in New York City, and Colton realizes that Nell has never really gotten over Kyle’s death. She seems to be harboring a deeply rooted pain, a heavy weight of guilt and regret. He knows he shouldn’t get involved, but he can’t help himself. Trust doesn’t come easily for either of them, and they both have demons. Together, they learn the purpose of pain and the meaning of healing, and the importance of forgiveness.
